What started off as a community volunteer project to earn a bronze award for Girl Scouts turned out to be a perfect ending to the whole cancer ordeal for my family as my ten year old daughter emerged as a leader for Relay for Life of Reseda, the 24 hour fundraiser for the American Cancer Society. She was one of the top four fundraisers, worked hard before and after the event getting things ready for our team’s booth, and on the day of the event not only worked our booth, but she walked a total of 5 miles around the track (until 1 a.m.!)
But that’s not all. She delivered the speech for the luminaria ceremony. She managed to tie up our cancer story in a big purple bow, creating something beautiful out of a tragic situation. I’m the proudest mommy in the world.
